Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Clementine is an open-source, multiplatform music player, similar to Amarok 1.4, offering an intuitive and simple interface for the user. The latest version available is Clementine 1.2.1, which has been released a while ago, bringing some security fixes to the previous version.

From the changelog:

  • Fix library download in the network remote.
  • Fix removing songs from playlist in the network remote.
  • Fix login failures with box.com.
  • (Linux) Fix a typo that would prevent the Spotify downloader button from ever being shown.

In this article I will show you how to install Clementine 1.2.1 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pear OS 8, Pear OS 7 and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.

For Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 10.04, Linux Mint 15, Linux Mint 14, Linux Mint 13, Pear OS 8, Pear OS 7 and Elementary OS 0.2, Clementine 1.2.1 is available via PPA, so installing it is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the clementine package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:me-davidsansome/clementine
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install clementine

For Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 13.10 and Linux Mint 16, we can use the Ubuntu Raring package, in order to install Clementine 1.2.1. Follow the instructions for your system’s architecture exactly, in order to get a successful installation:

Instructions for 32 bit systems:

$ wget -c clementine-player.googlecode.com/files/clementine_1.2.1~raring_i386.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i clementine_1.2.1~raring_i386.deb
$ sudo apt-get install -f

Instructions for 64 bit systems:

$ wget -c clementine-player.googlecode.com/files/clementine_1.2.1~raring_amd64.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i clementine_1.2.1~raring_amd64.deb
$ sudo apt-get install -f
